A Bookkeeping Clean Up for a Client - The Process

Schitts Creek

January 29, 2024: This client was so amazing to work with.
Here’s what went down…

This client had initially filed a Free Intake Questionnaire for monthly bookkeeping help. Getting sucked into the business of the holidays, they weren’t able to get back to my quotation. However, after a few weeks, they were open and transparent with me that they weren’t too sure what they needed in terms of services for 2024. They enjoy doing their bookkeeping, but just need guidance in 2024. Since 2023 has passed, and they were too busy to finalize their bookkeeping, they asked if I could do it.

”Of course, I can”, I told them.

The project then began. I requested access to their QuickBooks file to assess the situation. Afterwards, I created a document that outlined what needed to be cleaned up in their books (what wasn’t working and what was going to be completed). That’s where I let my clients decide what they’d like to do: they can take this analysis that costs $50.00 and complete their cleanup themselves or hand it over to someone else to complete OR they can proceed with the cleanup with us (the analysis fee will be deducted from the total price).

It’s important to me that we communicate throughout the entire process.

They were amazing at assisting me in fixing hiccups as they happened. For example, their GST/HST feature in QuickBooks wasn’t working properly (their file was active since 2005 so a lot of changes occurred, which resulted in this error), so we created her a clean slate and reconnected all of her accounts.

Once finished the cleanup process, I provided this client a Bookkeeping SOP (To-Do List) for them to complete their own bookkeeping on a monthly basis.

Now their 2023 books are clean and ready to be filed AND they have a clear idea on what to do on a monthly basis for their bookkeeping.
