October Money Moves

October 4, 2022: It's SPOOKY season!

The Office Dwight Pumpkin

Let’s get personal. We've all gone through highs and lows when it comes to personal or business finance. Some of us don't even want to think about it, look at our statements, or even scarier, discuss our financial moves.

I want to lessen the negative feelings and thoughts that occur within ourselves when we discuss our financial goals and plans.

Just a random story. I recently visited my local high school (what a trip down memory lane) to teach the 9th graders in the accounting class how to make a personal budget in Excel. It was such a simple spreadsheet, but the thought of younger individuals understanding and even maybe enjoying the concept of budgeting WAS SO EXCITING TO ME.

Now onto the point of this post. For my October Money Moves goal, I want to rebuild my Emergency Fund. Pretty simple to start our first goal of this series. I want to bring it up to $500 this month and work from there. I'd love to share some updates with you as I go along this month.

I used to be OBSESSED with Envelope Stuffing, Cash Budgeting, Sinking Funds, Emergency Funds, and anything else you’d find in budgeting Youtube videos! The obsession is starting to creep back in… lol.

Here are a few channels that I’m currently obsessed with at the moment:

  • Zie Pritchard (I love how open and honest she is about her entire budgeting journey)

  • Carter Sullivan (I love how she’s Canadian and how she incorporates videos of her everyday life into her channel)

  • One More Winter (I love how consistent and motivating she is to me)

October 31 Update: I was able to save $507.00 for my Emergency Fund. It might not seem like a lot to some. It might seem like a lot to others. I was discussing this with a family member. Sometimes when we look at the BIG PICTURE of everything we have to save for or pay off, it can be overwhelming. I'm just taking it one goal at a time!

See ya next month!
